Customs Clearing Agents
The Clearing Agents are the stakeholders to the Customs Division empowered with the task of proper declaration of goods and services involved in the cross border trade. To operate as a clearing agent one has to follow the formal trader registration process prior to being approved by Customs after qualification to specific standards laid by Customs.
Clearing Agent Duties and Responsibility
- Carry out all necessary Customs clearance procedures according to the regulations including submission of all Customs documentation such as Customs declaration and the accompanying/supporting documents, payment of duty and other obligations and removal of goods from a warehouse or a checkpoint on behalf of the owner of the goods.
- Be responsible to the Customs Authority on behalf of the owner of the goods for any breach of the Customs Law or any other relevant laws or regulations.
- Participate in the inspection of goods with Customs authorities
- Be responsible for the cost of transportation, unloading, warehousing and other expenses incurred due to inspection of the goods
- Open containers and boxes of goods, count the quantity of goods, weigh and measure the goods as may be requested by Customs Authority for verification purposes.
